In the big tremors of that earthquake, many of our furniture items and electrical appliances fell down and we were unable even to stand up, but one thing prevented big injury in our case.
In our children`s room, the wooden slide fell and directly hit the glass on the window. However,the glass did not shatter and cause injury because we had stuck a piece of film on the glass when we had our annual big clean-out of the house at the end of the year. The children who had been sleeping near that window were unscathed.
We had placed this film on the window to avoid condensation in winter. We had never imagined that this will serve us well in an earthquake.

We usa many objects made of glass or china in our daily lives, such as windows, cupboards, doors, and lighting. These are likely to break when an earthquake shakes the home and they become scattered about, creating great hazard. Also, these broken pieces become obstacles in evacuation, causing delay in escape. If windows are covered with "UV cut film" or "anti -condensation film "available one the market,these will give protection in earthquakes as well.
Special earthquake safety film for glass have also become available recently.
