DISATER PREVENTION AT HOME

Disinfection

There are these small fish-shaped plastic containers for soy sauce that come with a boxed lunch or sushi. I always put some water in this container when I wash my face in the morning. I keep it my pocket all day. This is because I find it useful for the following things.
1) I can use it to clean up any small wounds.
2) I can wash my eye with it even when dust gets in it while disposing of rubble from collapsed houses.
3) There is enough water there for me to wash the tips of my thumb and forefinger so I can use them to pick up food.(You cannot always rely on chopsticks or forks being available.) This provides me with minimum hygiene.
4) If my clothing gets soiled slightly, I can use this water to prevent permanent stains.
5) I can throw the water away and use the container as a syringe. (Male, aged 60,Kita Ward)

Wet wipes were very useful for disinfection and so on. Because the water supply had been cut, we only had these to clean wounds with. Even now, I keeo a stock of several packs.

Fire Deperment Advice
When there is no running water, you do not have access to clean water. The bottles of antiseptic found in first aid kits can be used for disinfection of wounds but cannot be used for cleaning hands before meals or for wiping children`s faces. Wet wipes should always be part of your disaster survival bag.
